Website Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 27, 2026 · Last updated: October 27, 2026

1. Who we are and what this policy covers

Golden Thread Therapy is the private practice of Erin Miller-Brennan, LPCC, CMHC, providing online individual therapy to adults located in Utah and California. In this policy, “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Golden Thread Therapy.

This policy explains how we handle information collected through goldenthreadtherapy.org (the “website”). It does not cover your clinical records if you become a client. Those are governed by federal and state health privacy laws, including HIPAA, and described in our separate Notice of Privacy Practices (see section 11).

2. Information you choose to give us

We collect personal information only when you choose to provide it:

  • Consultation request form: your first name, email address, phone number (optional), the state you'll be in during sessions, an optional brief note, and your acknowledgment that the form is not for emergencies.
  • Resources email list: your first name (optional), email address, and your consent to receive emails.
  • Direct contact: anything you include when you email or call us.
You never have to provide information to browse this website.

3. Information collected automatically

Like nearly all websites, our web server and service providers automatically receive basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you request, the referring website, and the date and time of your visit. This information is used to deliver pages to you, keep the site secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems. We do not use it to identify you or build a profile about you.

Cookies. This website does not use advertising, analytics, or social media tracking cookies. Our site-speed service may set a small technical cookie needed to deliver cached pages efficiently. If you log in to the website's admin area (staff only), WordPress sets cookies required for that login. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the website will still work.

4. How we use your information

We use the information you provide to:

  • respond to your questions and schedule your free consultation;
  • send emails you've asked for, such as resources and workbook updates (you can unsubscribe at any time);
  • operate, maintain, and secure the website; and
  • comply with legal and professional obligations.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not use it to make automated decisions about you.

5. How we share information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising or marketing by anyone else.

We share limited information only with service providers that help us run the website, and only as needed for them to do so:

  • Website hosting, which stores the website and processes visits;
  • NitroPack, a site-speed and content-delivery service that helps pages load quickly;
  • Google Fonts, which provides the typefaces used on the site (your browser requests font files from Google, which receives your IP address); and
  • Our email delivery service, which sends form submissions to our practice inbox.
We may also disclose information if required by law, such as a valid subpoena or court order, or to protect someone's safety.

6. Other websites

Our website may link to other websites, such as Psychology Today. When you follow those links, you leave our website, and any information you provide there is governed by that company's own privacy policy. We encourage you to review their policies before sharing information with them.

7. Health information and website forms

Website forms and regular email are convenient, but they are not designed for sharing sensitive clinical details. Please keep messages brief, and save personal health information for your consultation or for our secure therapy platforms once you're a client.

Our website and email are not monitored for emergencies. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), text HOME to 741741, or dial 911.

8. Do Not Track signals and third-party tracking

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” (DNT) setting. Because this website does not track visitors across other websites or over time for advertising or profiling, we treat all visitors the same way whether or not a DNT signal is sent. We do not allow third parties to use this website to collect information about your online activities across different websites over time.

9. How long we keep information

We keep consultation inquiries only as long as needed to respond and maintain reasonable business records. Email list information is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Server and security logs held by our service providers are retained for limited periods under their own policies. If you become a client, your clinical records are kept as required by law and professional licensing rules.

10. How we protect information

The website is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and access to inquiries is limited to the practice. We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, but no website or email system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

11. Your therapy records and our Notice of Privacy Practices

If you become a client, the privacy of your health information is protected by HIPAA and by Utah and California law. Our Notice of Privacy Practices explains how your clinical information may be used and disclosed, and your rights to access, amend, and receive an accounting of it. You'll receive the Notice before your first session, and you may request a copy at any time by emailing erin@goldenthreadtherapy.org.

12. Your choices and rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to tell you what personal information we have from this website, to correct it, or to delete it. You can unsubscribe from emails using the link in any email or by contacting us.

California residents: You may review and request changes to the personal information you've submitted through this website by contacting us at the email below. We do not share personal information with third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.

We will not treat you differently for making a privacy request.

13. Children's privacy

Golden Thread Therapy works only with adults, and this website is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

14. Changes to this policy and contact

We may update this policy as our practices or the law change. When we do, we'll update the “Last updated” date above, and for significant changes we'll post a notice on our homepage.
