Individual therapy · Online in Utah & California

Therapy that helps you understand yourself and do something different.

Insight is powerful, but it isn't the whole job. In our work together you'll make sense of the patterns shaping your life, learn practical skills for the moments that are hardest, and heal the experiences that keep pulling you back.

In short

Individual therapy at Golden Thread is one-on-one online counseling for adults in Utah and California. Erin Miller-Brennan, LPCC, CMHC, combines psychodynamic therapy, DBT, and EMDR to help clients understand their patterns, build practical skills, and heal experiences that still affect them.

My approach

An integrative toolbox

Therapy isn't limited to one technique. We'll use what fits you and what you're working through, usually a blend of the following.

Psychodynamic therapy

Explores how earlier relationships and experiences shape the way you think, feel, and relate today. This is the “why” behind the pattern.

DBT →

Skills for emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness, from a board-certified DBT clinician.

EMDR →

Helps process distressing memories so they lose their emotional charge and stop driving present-day reactions.

CBT

Identifies and shifts unhelpful thought patterns and the behaviors that keep them going.

Mindfulness

Builds awareness of the present moment, so you can respond rather than react.

Art-based therapy

Drawing on Erin's master's training in art psychotherapy, creative exercises can help when feelings are hard to put into words. No artistic skill needed.

Finding the right fit

Is this the right kind of therapy for you?

A good fit if you…

  • Are an adult (18+) located in Utah or California
  • Want both deeper understanding and practical tools
  • Prefer the convenience and privacy of online sessions
  • Are ready to look at your own patterns, even in relationships with others

Probably not the right fit if you…

  • Are looking for couples, family, or child therapy
  • Need in-person sessions
  • Need more support than weekly therapy can offer right now
If that's you, I'm happy to help point you toward the right resource.

Questions

Individual therapy FAQ

How long is a therapy session?

Sessions are 45 to 50 minutes, held by secure video.

How often will we meet?

Most clients start weekly or every other week, which helps build momentum. As things improve, many move to every three or four weeks. We'll decide together based on your needs.

How long does therapy usually last?

It depends on your goals. Some people come for a few months to work through a specific challenge; others stay longer to change deeper patterns. We'll check in regularly about what's working and whether it's time to adjust.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

For many people and many concerns, yes. Research generally finds video therapy to be comparably effective to in-person therapy, and it removes barriers like commute time. Many clients also find it easier to open up from their own space.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes, within the limits set by law, such as situations involving imminent risk of harm or abuse of a child or vulnerable adult. Sessions take place on HIPAA-compliant platforms, and we'll review confidentiality in detail at your first appointment.

You don't have to have it all figured out to begin.

A free 15-minute call is a low-pressure way to see if we're a good fit. Tell me a little about what's going on, ask anything you'd like, and leave with a clear next step either way.
